Doing what you can, with what you have…

My mom, who is such a gracious gal, came up with the most wonderful idea.  She started baking goodies last week and taking them to work to raise money for Susan G. Komen. So far, she has sold out of rice krispie treats and carrot cupcakes, raising about $20 for the cause. I know this doesn’t sound like a lot. But, Imagine how much we could give if one person in every office in your city did this- just one time! That could multiply to be a pretty big number!

I put my mom’s idea into action at my office with these pumpkin pie bars

By 11:00 they were all gone! Maybe together, she and I can raise $100 this month! It’s really a win-win… these bars are yummy!

{Here is a link to Susan G. Komen’s breast self awareness page. Prevention is just as important as the fight.}

Lovely Quotes: Steve Jobs {RIP}

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” – Steve Jobs, Stanford commencement speech 2005

Clocks {the end of Daylight Saving Time}

Watching the leaves begin to change, and days becoming shorter, I’m suddenly reminded that it will soon be time to “Fall Back”.  Searching to find when exactly the time change will happen, I came across this really neat image on National Geographic of Mr. Ray Keen attending to the 97-year-old clock which sits atop a Kansas courthouse.

This image then inspired me to search for other great clocks!

Peter Pan… I think he made clock towers magical!

By the way, we can set our clocks back an hour at midnight on Sunday, November 6.  Is it me, or does that seem a bit later than normal?

5k pic!

So, it’s not the best, but here is the picture my hubby took right after I crossed the finish line!  P.S. he was so sweet to come and cheer me on… he drove 45 minutes to my race after a really long and busy day for him… it was so nice to see his smile when I finished the run!

I am trying to keep up the running, but it’s hard considering the next run I went on after the 5k I hurt my ankle.  I think it’s pulled tendons?  I’m staying active lifting weights and having dates with Billy Blanks {tae bo}.

I have to say, as someone who has never been athletically inclined, it’s been challenging at times to not quit my work-out routine.  For me, it got easier after committing myself to some sort of exercise several times a week for one month. Plus paying the 5k registration was good motivation~ I had to run or I’d waste my money!  The last time I was this committed to my overall health was the months prior to our wedding when I wanted to look great in that dress!  It feels good to feel “strong”, as cheesey as that sounds!  This 5k really encouraged me, and I think it’s a great way to get on a consistent work-out plan.  It was for me at least!

Lovely Quotes: Little Engine That Could

“I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I know I can.”

― Little Engine That Could

My week has been so busy, I feel like I’m on information overload.  As I sat at my desk today, and crossed another item off my to-do list, a quote from a sweet children’s book that I’m sure you’ve all read, The Little Engine That Could, popped into my head: “I think I can, I think I can…”

Just thinking about a little kiddo somewhere reading this book made my mood instantly lighter!

Happy Hump-Day,

Hip Chick

My sweet friend May and her family found baby birds under a tree in their front yard last week!  I was certain they wouldn’t make it {I have had a similar experience}, but they are doing great and even learning to fly… in her living room!  It’s been so fun getting updates from her, so I thought I would share a few of her most recent pictures…

Are these not the coolest photos?!  I love the face he is making while perched on the electrical outlet!  Hilarious!  Thanks May for letting me share…

London Fog {Rainy Tuesday}

The only thing fun about a rainy day are the accessories that accompany it.  A pretty umbrella, a fun pair of wellies, and a classic raincoat… speaking of, when was the last time you visited the London Fog website?  Definitely check it out…

Now doesn’t this picture from their website just make you want to cozy up with the one you love?  Wearing over-sized sunglasses, of course!
