Penguin Threads {Jillian Tamaki}

And the Christmas gift list begins! I am absolutely blown away by these beautiful hand-embroidered Penguin Classics book covers by illustrator Jillian Tamki!  I can think of so many people who I would love to give {and who would love to receive} one of these for Christmas!

The books will be available starting this month. Unfortunately, they will not be individually embroidered, as you could imagine how terribly time consuming for the artist and expensive for us, the consumer, that would be!  According to Jillian’s blog, “they will, however, be beautifully produced, printed with a sculptural-embossing technique that will emphasize the stitches.”

Here are a few photos from Jillian’s site

I especially love all the detail… like the quote you see on the back cover of Emma. “One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other.”

The books can be purchased here at the Penguin website. They are also available now for pre-order on Barnes & Noble’s site.

{I do apologize for using the words “Christmas list” in October. It’s ok~ catch your breath! There’s still time Mrs. Claus.}

Clocks {the end of Daylight Saving Time}

Watching the leaves begin to change, and days becoming shorter, I’m suddenly reminded that it will soon be time to “Fall Back”.  Searching to find when exactly the time change will happen, I came across this really neat image on National Geographic of Mr. Ray Keen attending to the 97-year-old clock which sits atop a Kansas courthouse.

This image then inspired me to search for other great clocks!

Peter Pan… I think he made clock towers magical!

By the way, we can set our clocks back an hour at midnight on Sunday, November 6.  Is it me, or does that seem a bit later than normal?

Lovely Quotes: Little Engine That Could

“I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I know I can.”

― Little Engine That Could

My week has been so busy, I feel like I’m on information overload.  As I sat at my desk today, and crossed another item off my to-do list, a quote from a sweet children’s book that I’m sure you’ve all read, The Little Engine That Could, popped into my head: “I think I can, I think I can…”

Just thinking about a little kiddo somewhere reading this book made my mood instantly lighter!

Happy Hump-Day,

Nest Pretty Things {p.s. happy autumn}

You know that feeling you get when you see something a crafter has made on etsy, or a blog, or at a show, and it’s so wonderful your heart skips a beat and you sigh quietly to yourself in awe?  Well, that’s the feeling I got when I saw the creations of Tamar for her line Nest Pretty Things.  And her images make her creations even more desirable, if that’s possible!  Take a look at some of the pictures from her Etsy page…

Isn’t it lovely?  Check out her blog for more amazing-ness!

Oh, and happy Autumn!  It officially starts today!

DIY: Stencilled Lace and Jewels

A couple of years ago I became a bit obsessed with finding new ways to display my jewelry.  Currently, my earrings hang on a decorative bird cage.  But I haven’t really found a great solution that I love for necklaces and bracelets, until now!

Ok, first of all, I envy the lucky gal that gets to lay her head to sleep at night in this beautiful bedroom… But look closer at this amazing jewelry display above the dresser…

Is this amazing or what?!  From what I can see, the designer just used a piece of lace as a stencil and repeated the image until reaching the desired size of the “canvas”.  The mix of vintage hooks are a neat addition.  I think it could be really pretty to add an oval, vintage mirror in the center.  There are a lot of things you could do with it.  I love the idea of using lace as a stencil!

{I found these images online at House to Home.}

These erasers by Jonathan Adler crack me up!  Can you imagine how funny {and cute} these would be sitting on your desk?  Definitely a conversation starter!

Get yours at the Jonathan Adler site, or at {Atlanta-based gift store} Swoozie’s.

Still giggling!

2011 Country Living Fair {Atlanta Show}

I am soooo excited about the Country Living Fair at Stone Mountain Park this year!!!  Truly, it’s been a while since I’ve looked forward to something this much!  I’ve never been, but from what I understand the vendors specialize in vintage {and vintage-inspired}, rustic, and re-purposed goods.  So it won’t be like your typical craft fair.

Here are some pics I pulled from the Country Living website:

Details: October 21, 22 & 23 at Stone Mountain Park 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

See ya’ there!
